Every topper may not be creative and every creative student may not be creative. The education system in India is outdated. We still judge a student’s intelligence by his grades. To stay competitive we need to better engage our students. Not every student is college bound. Introducing vocational training as freshmen should be offered by the colleges. By the end of their school days most students figure out whether they are academically inclined or vocationally inclined.
The system is same be it college or school. Last minute assignments and projects are submitted by copying them from internet. These are the places where creativity is murdered daily. With the lack of proper guidance for it is difficult to break habit of twenty years.
This generation is more confused than ever. Introducing courses without proper information to the students and lacking opportunity increases anxiety in students. The pressure of society to deliver the best is somewhere degrading the creativity of the students.
The present system does not bring the creativity of the students. It is merely the GPA’s that the students are all concern about. Mr.Mitra, a professor of educational technology at the School of Education, Communication and language Sciences at Newcastle University, England said, “The present examination system does not bring out creativity in a student. The toppers are good students, but they are not creative.
When asked, whether the examination system should be scrapped, he said, “Examination or some form of assessment should be there but the format should be changed. Instead of asking direct questions, the students should be tested for creative ability. It is more important to focus upon what a student should not know rather than what a student should know. Days are not far when internet will be used in examination halls. Internet as a collective conscience of billions of people and student should be allowed to understand and pick ideas to formulate their perspective.”
Everything can be replaced but ideas cannot. True education is the one where ideas are encouraged. If the media exposure along with the educational department makes an effort in utilizing the youth population, India can be one of the most successful , powerful and fully developed country in the world.
